Versatility Awards Program

The Versatility Awards Program is designed to recognize Dogue de Bordeaux- handler teams, that have distinguished themselves in the AKC conformation ring and in AKC and other competitive working events as well as in service and community contributions.  These awards acknowledge dogs that have the type, temperament, intelligence and working ability to excel in several areas.  The accomplishments of these dogs represent the essential versatility of the breed.

The Versatility Awards comprise 2 titles, V (Versatility) and VX (Versatility Excellent).

Versatility (V) Award

The Versatility (V) title is awarded to dogs whose achievements have been recognized in at least three (3) performance event categories (A through H).  Dogs receiving the Versatility (V) title must have earned an AKC CH title and completed at least a RE or a CD.

  1. The dog must have an AKC CH title
  2. A minimum of 10 versatility points must be earned.
  3. The dog must have completed a RE or a CD.
  4. Points must be earned in no less than three (3) of the Categories A through H.
  5. No more than 5 points from Category H:  Miscellaneous.

Versatility Excellent (VX) Award

The Versatility Excellent (VX) title is awarded to dogs who demonstrate the ability to perform at the highest levels by accumulating at least 13 points in a single working category (obedience, agility, tracking, Schutzhund), not a combination of working categories.  Carting, Rally, Weight Pull or Miscellaneous points do not count toward this requirement.

1.     A minimum of 15 versatility points must be earned.

2.     A Versatility (V) Award must have been earned.

3.     At least 13 of the required points must come from a single working category (obedience, agility, tracking, Schutzhund), not a combination of working categories.   (Carting, Rally, Weight Pull or Miscellaneous points do not count toward this requirement).

4.     No more than 5 points may come from Category H: Miscellaneous.

No dog that has been disqualified by any venue awarding these performance titles, and that has not been reinstated, shall be eligible for these awards.  And should such disqualification occur after a V and/or VX has been granted, the award(s) shall be rescinded and the dog’s name removed from the DDBSA record of recipients.

Point Schedule

Points in all categories are cumulative; i.e., the UD degree entitles the dog to a total of 15 points:  4 – CD + 5 – CDX + 6 – UD.  Equivalent titles from a different venue do not count towards awards (i.e. using AKC and CPE agility titles for points or AKC and UKC obedience and/or agility titles for points).  Only titles from a single selected venue count in each category towards awards.

The Miscellaneous category allows recognition of Dogues de Bordeaux that participate in the may other activities that are available around the country.  Points earned in this category will be reviewed on an individual basis with the submission of the certificate eared, the rules of the sanctioning organization, and an explanation of the sport or activity.  If a comparable AKC title has not been awarded, dogs earning titles in non-AKC recognized events (e.g., UKC, Canadian titles, APDT,…) may have their accomplishments recognized under the appropriate category.

You must make application for these awards.
